COCONUT LEMON SAKE ILLUMINATING MASK

COCONUT LEMON SAKE ILLUMINATING MASK

This is a lovely, creamy mask with a brightening effect courtesy of sake, which is brimming with natural kojic acid, and a little bit of fresh lemon juice*, which is high in vitamin c and bioflavonoids.

Matcha requires a little bit of whisking to fully incorporate it, which also whips some air into the mask, giving it a fluffy, airy texture. I adore how calming matcha is, and it leaves the skin feeling velvety soft. Spirulina brings skin-healing amino acids and b vitamins, and it brings a gorgeous glow to tired, dull skin. Coriander and coconut milk are both packed with antimicrobial, antifungal compounds, and coconut milk imparts lasting moisture. This mask will leave your skin unbelievably silky, and deeply nourished.

INGREDIENTS

METHOD

  1. Add each ingredient, one at a time, to a small bowl or cup, whisking as you add the powdered ingredients.
  2. Apply with fingertips or a mask brush to clean, dry skin.
  3. Leave on for 5-15 minutes.
  4. Remove with a warm compress, then splash face with several rounds of cool water.
  5. Follow up with your favorite toner, serum, and moisturizer.

This mask may be used once per week. Store any excess in the refrigerator, covered, and it should last for 10-14 days.

DISCLAIMERS

On my non-sensitive skin, it feels a tiny bit warm and tingly, but not at all uncomfortable. If for some reason it feels ouchie on your skin, remove it right away, and rinse it well with cool water.

I do not recommend going rogue with this recipe, it was created very thoughtfully and has the potential to go wrong if ingredients are substituted carelessly. I strongly recommend that you follow this recipe to the letter in order to receive the intended benefits, and avoid unforeseen consequences.

* If you see the words lemon juice and think “nope that sounds ouchie” please don’t stress. I’ve balanced the acidic, stimulating citrus juice with unctuous coconut milk and calming matcha. You are welcome to sub in fresh orange or grapefruit juice for a little less "zing" on sensitive skin. Please do not sub in shelf-stable lemon juice- it isn't effective and probably contains preservatives & citric acid that is synthesized from a mold.
