Thank goodness spring is coming. Longer days, brave flowers blooming, and a feeling of renewal all around. Most of the plants that are peeking out this early are incredibly beneficial spring tonics for lymphatic flow, and flushing the kidneys & liver. Violet, chickweed, cleavers, nettle, and henbit are my favorite spring tonics. Spring in our bodies means that our blood & energy starts to move upwards and outwards, like a plant, emerging from the dark earth.

Air Out Your Space
When the weather permits, open the windows wide and let the fresh air in. Also good in spring- diffuse an antimicrobial essential oil, like tea tree or cape verbena.
Macadamia Body Scrub
I use this once or twice per week in the spring to moisturize & energize my body. Play around with the amount of salt & sugar, or replace the oil or shea butter with what you have on hand (or prefer). You can skip the essential oil, or replace it, and you can easily adjust the amount to your preference.
1 cup pink salt
1 cup coconut sugar
3/4 cup macadamia nut oil
1/4 to 1/2 cup shea butter or coconut oil melted over a water bath
3 to 11 drops of petitgrain essential oil
Stir together ingredients & place in a glass swing-top jar or something that has a good seal on it (not tupperware). Since it doesn't contain water, it is pretty shelf stable IF you don't introduce water. In order to avoid introducing water, and with it bacteria, (wet hands + shower scenario) I scoop out a single serving amount (with a super duper clean & dry spoon) into a small bowl and bring that to the tub with me. I like to scrub down with a hammam mitt first, and follow with this scrub towards the end of my shower.
Blueberry Tonic Smoothie
1 cup kefir or nut mylk
1 cup frozen wild blueberries
1 handful of fresh violet leaves or chickweed, rinsed & chopped finely
half of a ripe (fresh or frozen) banana
maple syrup or honey to taste if you prefer to add sweetener
Blend all ingredients together except sweetener, taste and add sweetener if necessary. Anything can be swapped out in this recipe, excluding the green tonic herbs. The violet or chickweed adds mild a green flavor, similar to spinach.
Move Your Body
Try this workout, or this one, hop on a rebounder, or just grab a jacket and go outside and wander.
